NDDC: Senate to commence probe of Pondei by September

The Senate ad hoc committee set up to unravel the alleged financial recklessness by the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reassured Nigerians that the upper chamber of the National Assembly would ensure that justice is done on the pending matter.

The committee also said that the probe of a fresh petition against the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Daniel Pondei, would wait till September when the National Assembly resumes from its current annual vacation.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Ayo Akinyelure who spoke to newsmen at the weekend said at the moment, members of the committee have proceeded on their annual vacation and it would be out of order for him alone to conduct public hearing on the NDDC matter.

“We will start the investigation when we resume plenary in September. We have to take our time to find out those behind the petition and other details that would guide us on who to invite to come and give evidence.”

“If we don’t have all these details, we cannot do anything. Moreover, most of my committee members are now on vacation. I cannot sit alone as chairman and claim that I’m conducting public hearing.”
