Two children were swept away by flood in the Alapere area of Lagos on Saturday.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around 8:00 pm at Oyebanjo Street, Ketu
It was also learnt that the entire area was overflooded after the evening rains, making movement very difficult.
Men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) combed the area with search parties in a bid to rescue the kids but their efforts were not successful.
LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the development, explained that following a distress call, a joint team of responders comprising Lagos Fire Service and Lagos Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rushed to the scene of the incident.
“The Agency’s tiger team commenced a search and rescue operation along the path of the floodwater. Initial observations revealed a sloping topography with a direct channel of drain water into the canal. This has proven to be rather challenging to navigate,” he said.
He urged members of the public to exercise caution in flood-prone and low lying areas.
